Hartford is de hoofdstad van de Amerikaanse staat Connecticut. De stad zelf heeft 121.578 inwoners, maar de agglomeratie maar liefst 1.183.110. Hartford is na Bridgeport en New Haven de grootste stad van Connecticut. Het is de op 6 na grootste stad in New England.
De stad ligt in het midden van de staat, aan de Connecticutrivier.
Hartford was jarenlang de rijkste stad van de Verenigde Staten, maar tegenwoordig leven drie op de tien gezinnen onder de armoedegrens.
De bijnaam van Hartford is The Insurance Capital of the World. Veel Amerikaanse verzekeringsmaatschappijen hebben hier namelijk hun hoofdkantoor.
