Vroeger had je in de bibliotheek het SISO systeem, maar dat was voor kinderen vaak veel te ingewikkeld. In de bibliotheken kun je tegenwoordig onderwerpen zoeken in het PIM-systeem. PIM staat voor Presentatiesysteem Informatieve Media. Het wordt gebruikt voor zowel de jeugd- als de volwassenen afdelingen. Steeds meer bibliotheken stappen over op dit systeem. Voordeel van dit systeem is dat je er in kunt 'rondsnuffelen'.

Voor- en nadelen

Met het PIM-systeem kun je zoeken (rondsnuffelen) zonder echt een zoekterm in te voeren, waarbij je tikfouten zou kunnen maken. Nadeel is dat je niet rechtstreeks naar iets of iemand kunt zoeken.

PIM en Wikikids

Dat rondsnuffelen kan natuurlijk ook binnen Wikikids. Er zijn overeenkomsten in onderwerpen, maar ook verschillen. Soms heeft een rubriek net even een andere naam en verschilt de indeling. In PIM heb je rubrieken en in Wikikids spreken we van portalen en categorieën.

Het begint als een boom met hoofd-takken, waarna je steeds meer zijtakken krijgt.
