Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, beter bekend als Lewis Carroll, was een Brits schrijver, dichter en wiskundige. Carroll is vooral bekend door zijn kinderboek Alice in Wonderland en het vervolg daarop Through the Looking-Glass. Ook schreef hij verschillende andere boeken en gedichten, waaronder Jabberwocky. In Carrolls werk speelt onzin een grote rol. Dingen gebeuren vaak zonder reden en zonder echt verhaal. Hierdoor is logisch nadenken erg belangrijk. Sommige mensen zeggen daardoor dat de werken van Carroll ook erg moeilijk voor kinderen kunnen zijn.
