William Makepeace Thackeray (Calcutta (Brits-Indië), 18 juni 1811 - Londen, 24 december 1863) was een Brits schrijver en dichter. Hij staat vooral bekend om zijn boeken Vanity Fair (1847-1848) en The Luck of Barry Lyndon (1844).

Thackery schreef vooral satires en parodieën. Hij maakte vaak grappen over de bovenklasse, het leger en het huwelijk. Aan het einde van zijn leven werden Thackeray's werken een stuk serieuzer.
