Roger Moore (14 oktober 1927 - 23 mei 2017) was een beroemd Brits acteur en ambassadeur van Unicef.
Hij werd bekend als "Ivanhoe" in de gelijknamige jeugdserie op de TV (1958). Die serie werd ook in Nederland erg populair. De Nederlandse TV-serie "Floris" was er - 10 jaar later - duidelijk door "geïnspireerd".
Maar Roger Moore maakte vooral naam door zijn rol als James Bond in wel 7 Bondfilms.
In 1962 werd hij voor het eerst gevraagd om in een Bondfilm te spelen, maar hij ging toen net aan de serie "The Saint" beginnen en kon dus niet spelen. In 1973 kwam hij voor het eerst als 007 op het witte doek; hij bleef Bond spelen tot in 1985. In de jaren dat hij in de Bondfilms speelde, speelde hij soms ook wel rollen in andere films, zoals Sea Wolves.
Later richtte hij zich meer op TV-series ("The Saint"; "The Persuaders"). Hij had Bond gespeeld als een moordenaar met humor, en de films hadden miljarden dollars opgebracht met hem op het doek. Hierna zette hij zich in voor kinderen in de Derde Wereld als ambassadeur van Unicef.
Weetjes
- Hij zat op de Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, waar 007's tegenspeelster Lois Maxwell een klasgenootje van Moore was.
- In het begin van zijn carrière speelde hij als stand-in; hierna werd hij een echte acteur.
- Hij werd echter een beetje boos toen de producer van de Bondfilms, Albert R. Broccoli, een nieuwe Bond zocht. Hij moest niet zeuren, vond Broccoli. Broccoli had het sterrendom in zijn schoot geworpen.
- Moore was een goede vriend van Frank Sinatra.
