+/- is een teken wat wordt gebruikt om aan te geven dat iets ongeveer is, dus niet precies iets. Het tekentje wordt wel plus minus genoemd. Het teken wordt ook soms min of meer genoemd in de uitspraak.
- Een voorbeeldzin, zonder het plus minus-tekentje:
- Keulen heeft 989.766 inwoners.
- Dit wordt met het plus minus tekentje:
- Keulen heeft +/- 990.000 inwoners.
- Nog een voorbeeldzin, zonder:
- We hebben net 4 uur en 29 minuten gereden.
- Met:
- We hebben net +/- 4 uren gereden.
Dit symbool wordt ook veel gebruikt in de wiskunde.
Hockey
Plus/Minus is ook een statistiek in ijshockey. Het meet hoeveel doelpunten je voor én tegen hebt gehad op het moment dat je op het ijs stond.
