312 => 'In 1996 werd op het EK in Engeland de golden goal ook wel ‘sudden death’ ingevoerd. Zowel tijdens dit EK, als het daaropvolgende EK van 2000, werd het toernooi gewonnen door een golden goal. In 2002 schafte de UEFA de golden goal weer af. Voor het EK van 2004 werd de silver goal geïntroduceerd. Tijdens dit EK is de silver goal alleen van toepassing geweest tijdens de halve finale tussen Griekenland en Tsjechië, hier won Griekenland de wedstrijd door in de laatste minuut van de eerste verlenging te scoren.
